With the Children's Zoo exhibits already built, the sidewalks finished and the zoo open to the public, the Pittsburgh Zoo selected Eisler Landscapes to replace the trees on the site. Eisler removed massive dead trees, some with trunks over four feet in diameter. The trees were replaced with 65 non-varietal native species, including maple, oak and ash, to recreate the naturally wooded environment. Eisler's crew was awarded a second stage, including final grading, filling in soil and site cleanup. Because of site limitations, the finishing touches had to be done completely by hand. Eisler still came in 25 percent under contract for this stage of the project. |
